Personal

Wow, a visitor! It's not like I receive much fanmail for the toys and games I've written. :-(

Brief autobiography

I was born in New Zealand in the 1970s. After moving house many times, I happened to be on Turtle Island in Fiji when the movie Blue Lagoon was shot with Brooke Shields and Christopher Atkins . The island (also known as Nanuya Levu) is owned by Richard Evanson, an American millionaire who now operates it as an exclusive resort.

After moving back to Waitara in New Zealand and getting a degree from Massey University I got a job writing NES games at Beam Software in Melbourne .

This was so much fun I moved to the UK to write more games, for the C64 and SNES. After writing many games and support tools, I moved into engineering programming work. I wrote line-of-business software for several companies for a couple of years, but then worked again with ex-colleagues on GBA games and "TV games", as well as a brief stint of PS2 development, and mobile phone games. We moved into firmware development for physical toys such as drones and robots, but the skills built up over the years for real-time coding and full-stack development (from app to low-level firmware) were useful in these new products.

When the studio was shut down after nearly 20 years I moved to an exciting startup engineering company which works with fun toys like LIDAR and drones and robots mixing maths and machine learning and ambition for the cloud and connected data.
